FUN IN FIRST GRADE !!!!!!!!

Welcome to Grade 1 !

The reason I enjoy teaching is first and foremost the children. There is nothing more rewarding than having children discover their love of learning. As a product of Catholic education I am a staunch supporter. There are only three things you can give your children in life. They are love, education, and faith. All of these things are provided in Catholic education. We all must be life long learners but a strong foundation must be in place, before we build our lives.

I am a graduate of St. Patrick's Grade School, McHenry, Illinois, Marian Central Catholic High School, Woodstock, Illinois. I have a B. A. in Psychology from Mundelein College, Chicago, Illinois and a Masters Degree in Special Education from Indiana University. I have taught all grades and have numerous years in public schools besides my years here at Notre Dame.

I am married to Patrick who is also a product of Catholic education and is also an educator. We have 3 children who are graduates of Notre Dame Grade School.

We have just finished up our unit on Responsibility in Religion and Reading. It has been a lot of fun to discuss our responsibilities at Church, home and school. We have read some great stories on the subject. We are all ready to help anyone at any time!

Welcome to the world of First Grade! There is a brief overview of concepts and themes that we will study this year. You will find these in the academic section of this web site. I hope that your child becomes a happy life long learner. Working together we will accomplish a great deal. It takes teamwork and parental involvement.

Reading and Writing

The First Grade Class has completed their first 50 Baggie Books! They are really starting to love to read.It is evident with all the chapter books they are reading. I am very proud of their hard work in listening skills and Phonics. Please keep encouraging them!

Math

Practice Math facts to 18! Memorize!

The Third chapter has been completed successfully and the children enjoy using their tool kits everyday. Go over the vocabulary with your child and make sure they have mastered the meaning of them. Point out how you use Math everyday in the grown up world.
